This morning David and Victoria Beckham have donated £1m to UNICEF in support of Ukraine.
The former England Captain launched the appeal in support of International Women’s Day and the Emergency Appeal for Ukraine.
He released a heartwarming statement to his 71.2 million Instagram Followers. He began his message by saying: “Like you, I have watched the situation in Ukraine unfold with horror and disbelief.”
David became an ambassador for UNICEF in 2005. With massive support from his wife and former Spice Girl Victoria who also donated to the cause.
His statement shared his fears for Ukrainian families as he stated: “With my family safe around me, I felt helplessness we all share when faced with scenes of such despair.”
“Mother’s forced to flee with their children.”
He expressed the support he is aware UNICEF can provide from his position as Goodwill Ambassador. He ended his message with: “Today, on International Women’s Day, my 7 Fund for @UNICEF is setting up an Emergency Appeal to help provide immediate aid to support children's wellbeing, including medical supplies and safe spaces for families.”
UNICEF responded to his touching video commenting: “The needs of children in #Ukraine are growing by the minute. Thank you, David Beckham, and everyone helping raise urgent funds for families caught up in conflict.”
In 2015 David set up UNICEF 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to help children get the best possible start in life.
