DUA LIPA’S “LEVITATING” LAWSUIT: A second lawsuit against her song “Levitating”
Lipa is facing two separate lawsuits in U.S courts after she has been accused of copying songs for her hit “Levitating” featured on her album “Future Nostalgia” released in 2020.
In Manhattan Federal court songwriters Sandy Linzer and L Russel Brown stated their 1979 hit “Wiggle and giggle in the night” opening melody shared significant similarities to Lipa’s hit song.
This came less than a week after a Florida band, Arkital Sound System also sued the 26 year old singer for similarities to their song “Live your life” whilst stating it was: “highly unlikely that Levitating was created independently”.
Dua Lipa referred to interviews in which she expressed her album, Future Nostalgia had taken inspiration from “retro” sounds of historic music and “admitted that she deliberately emulated prior eras”.
The hit single became Dua Lipa’s biggest US chart hit after topping the charts for three consecutive weeks. It became the longest-running Top 10 song on the US Billboard Hot 100 ever by a female artist.
