Shock Radio's Top 10 Albums Of 2016
Although 2016 will mostly be a year that we'll want to forget, some fantastic music has been released this year. With such a wide range of albums to choose from, 2016 has been an iconic year for the industry. So choosing our top 10 albums for 2016, wasn't an easy task!
10) James Blake: The Colour In Anything
English Singer-Songwriter James Blake released his third studio album in 2016. His unique style may not have landed him a top ten spot in the Official Charts, but we think he deserves it and so he takes tenth place in our albums of the year.
9) Bastille: Wild World
This second album from Bastille spent two weeks at the top spot in the UK. Their catchy songs such as 'Good Grief' are bound to get stuck in your head and so 'Wild World' gets a well deserved ninth place.
8) Chance The Rapper: Coloring Book
Although technically not an album but more of a mixtape, Chance changed the landscape of rap this year with his critically acclaimed third release 'Coloring Book'.
7) Kendrick Lamar: Untitled Unmastered
Kendrick Lamar's latest release consisted of previously unreleased demos that originated during the recording of his 2015 album 'To Pimp A Butterfly'. During its first week of release, 'Untitled Unmastered' went straight to the top of the US Billboard Chart but sits comfortably at number seven in our top ten.
6) Kanye West: The Life Of Pablo
Although it hasn't been the best year for Kanye, 'The Life Of Pablo' certainly got people talking. From the controversial video for 'Famous' to the numerous updates that Kanye has made to his latest creation, we simply couldn't have this list without him.
5) The 1975: I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It
After staying relatively quiet for three years, British pop-rock band The 1975 released their second album in 2016 going straight to number one in the UK charts.
4) Childish Gambino: Awaken My Love
Childish Gambino took a step back from hip-hop this year to release an album inspired by soul, R&B and funk. The Californian rapper announced the album back in June which was eventually released earlier in December.
3) Beyonce: Lemonade
She's took to the stage with Hillary Clinton and toured all over the world, 2016 has been one hell of a year for Beyonce. To accompany the release of her sixth album, an hour long film was broadcast on HBO.
2) David Bowie: Blackstar
This year we lost some of music's most iconic artists including David Bowie. His final album was well received by critics and fans alike, and so it takes second place in our list.
1) Frank Ocean: Blonde
Taking the top spot in Shock Radio's Top 10 Albums Of 2016 is Frank Ocean. Ocean's experimental tones and abstract style differ from his previous releases giving him first place on this year's top ten.
